Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me out, i have a 1 1/2 year old female english mastiff and she has been getting pimples on her chin and the vet says it is from her face always being wet, but i was wondering if anyone had some home remedys they use on their mastiffs to clear this up, because i hate to put medicine on it in case she would lick it i don't want her to get sick. thanks!

What kind of a bowl does she have?  I used to work at the vet and plastic bowls can cause that in some cases.  We use stainless steel but I think you could try ceramic too.  Hope that helps!!

thanks! I actually just switched her to stainless steal bowls, so i will watch and see if it works. The funny thing is i got her new stainless steal bowls for a xmas present, and she just recently started using them, for the longest time she was scared of them!

Hi Stacy.  We had a touch of those little bumps under the chin area and so has our friend with a Rottie.  The vet gave us a special "wash" to really clean the area and an ointment that cleared it up in no time.  Whenever I see those little bumps getting a bit pink or bigger I srub the area and dab on the ointment before it turns into a huge mess!

Let me know if you want the name of the ointment.  I can get it off thebox still.

Ok, the wash is called "Dermatology PYOBEN" (antimicrobial medicated shampoo) made by: Virbac/Animal Health

and the ointment is called "Animax Ointment" (made by Pharmaderm/Animal Health)

It sure cleared up the bumps and we have lots left over for any future bumps .

P.S. We did get it all through our vet.

We use stridex pads on our Bullmastiff and they seem to work fine.

Recently my half bull, half english mastiff puppy (at 17 months I use the term puppy only to refer to her demeanor) started to develop the same type of pimple type sores on her muzzle and chin.

After they persisted and came back several times I googled "Mastiff Acne" and found lots of good info including this post and message board.

One of the better links I found is cut and pasted below:

Seems like good info from knowledgable people.  I plan on giving my vet a call to see about getting an antibiotic and some of the creme that was referenced in this thread.
